Choirs & Vocal Music
The Chancel Choir
Meeting as an ensemble for over eighty years at First UMC and currently consisting of over twenty voices. This group sings music from all types of genres, varying from classical to gospel and jazz to contemporary Christian. If you are in high school up to age “???”, you are welcome here. During the Christmas and Easter seasons, the choir offers larger works to the congregation and community that are accompanied by full orchestra. On a weekly basis, the choir offers music to the 11:00am service, as well as offering a special piece for the 9:15 service from time to time. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm in the Music Room. We look forward to seeing you there.
The Children’s Choir
Comprised of those in Kindergarten through second grade. Each week during rehearsal, the kids sing, play rhythm and Orff instruments, as well as being introduced to note-reading and rhythms. This group of kids sings during the worship service on a monthly basis and rehearses Wednesday evening at 5:15pm.
The Kid’s Choir
For grades three through five. During rehearsal, these kids sing, do small dramas, ring handbells and expand their use of rhythm and Orff instruments. When larger productions for the children's groups are offered for worship, this group provides the leads in the play. The Kid’s Choir rehearses at 4:30pm on Wednesday evening.
The Youth Choir
Composed of young adults in grades six through twelve. This group rings handbells, sings upbeat praise music with the Oasis Praise Team during the 9:15 service, as well as offering dramas and liturgical dance for worship. Come and have a lot of fun with this dynamic group of young adults on Wednesday evening at 6:50pm.
