Handbell Choirs
The Chapel Bells
This is the advanced handbell ensemble at First UMC and ring five octaves of Malmark handbells and three octaves of Malmark choir-chimes. This ensemble is for those who have experience ringing handbells and wish to ring music that is more challenging. Two to three times per year, this group participates in large festivals around the Midwest as well as close to home. The Chapel Bells look forward to offering music to the congregation each month of the program year and look forward to seeing you in worship. They rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:15 in the Music Room.
The Carillon Bells
This the beginning/intergenerational handbell ensemble at First UMC and is open to anyone from the sixth grade on up. This group rings five octaves of Whitechapel handbells and three octaves of choir-chimes. If you have never rung a bell or need a refresher course, this is the place for you. The Carillon Bells love to have new people ring with them as they learn, practice, and hone their skills Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Music Room.
The Chapel Bell Quintet
This group features five ringers from the advanced handbell ensemble at First UMC. This small group rings two-octaves of Malmark handbells off of the table, which means all ringing occurs in the air, and no bells are set down. This ensemble rings many times during the year, as well as for functions outside the church.
The Kids’ Bells
Made up of ringers in third through fifth grades. This ensemble learns the basics of ringing, as well as how to read music, and play in an ensemble setting. Depending on their number, the group rings two to three octaves of Malmark handbells.
