youth mission week

YOUTH MISSION WEEK
June 18 – 25

youth-mission

On Sunday June 18 our youth group will gather at the church to begin a week of service to our church and community.  We will work with the Second Hand Rose Thrift Shop, Habitat for Humanity, and Cass Community in Detroit. We will also work with Darrell Miller and Bill Wiza on projects for the church and parsonage as well as with Dan McLatcher on a project for the Warming Center.  All in all it will be a busy but productive week. At the end of the week, we will travel to Gaylord, MI to have a little fun at the Big Ticket Music Festival.  We will stay at the Lake Louise Christian Camp.  All our youth grades 6-12, including our recent graduates, are invited to be a part of this Mission Week.  If you would like to participate please see Rev. Alicea.   There will be a parent and youth meeting after church in the youth room on Sunday May 7 to discuss the week.  If your youth is thinking about participating and hasn’t yet decided, please plan to attend this meeting.

In order to make this a successful week for our youth, we are in need of several items.  If you have a camping cot or a roll-away bed we might borrow, we would greatly appreciate being able to sleep off the floor.  We will also eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the church and donations of food or snack items would be helpful.  Please see Sandy Paul or Greg West if you would like to donate food items.  Finally, each day we need adults to help with transportation to and from our work sites and to stay with the youth overnight at the church.  If you can give a day or a night to work with our youth please see Rev. Alicea.  This will be a wonderful week of relationship building, service, and sharing God’s love to our youth, community, and church.  Thank you in advance for your prayers for our youth.

Please Donate Necessities
Year-Round

blessings in a box

Our congregation is beginning a new community outreach mission project, year-round, for people in need called “Blessings in a Box”.  This will be a wooden box made by our youth during their summer mission week, placed on a post outside our church building.  The goal is to make life a little easier for folks who are lacking some basic necessities.   Examples  include: (travel or trial size) toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, band aids and hand sanitizer.  There will be a complete list of items in the mission collection area of the church ( between the buildings).  There will also be a collection basket.

We will begin our collection now hoping to have a significant supply to stock the box when it is completed in June.  Missions thanks you in advance for your support in helping those who will benefit from this project.

New Member Information!

We are so blessed to have guests visiting with us each week. I want to invite you to join me for Coffee with the Pastor. We will gather on Sunday, May 21, at 11:30 am in the conference room. We’d love to be your church family!  Coffee with the Pastor is designed to help you discover the values and beliefs of this church and the United Methodist denomination in a casual setting.  We will share drinks and a light meal together, learn more about the church, and one another.  I believe in this church and its ministry. When we find the right church family and make a commitment, we grow in our closeness to God, we learn to love our neighbor, and to walk as a child of God. I pray that you find that place of connection that will draw you closer to God.

If you have questions, concerns, or plan to attend, please give me a call, text, or email, 586.515.0013 or

revmary@mountclemensumc.org. Child care will be available if that would be helpful for your family, just let me know.
