► Haiti Health Kits
A major earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti, causing widespread destruction. Millions of people have been affected and hundreds of thousands have died. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is assessing the needs and preparing to respond. Donations for relief efforts can be made at the UMCOR by clicking HERE and/or HERE. First United Methodist Church of Mount Clemens will also be assisting by collecting and forwarding Health Kits. These kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster. If you would like donate a health kit, please pick up an items list in the Multipurpose Room (or click HERE) and enclose the materials listed in a one-gallon ziplock bag. Place them in the marked baskets by the entrances to the Sanctuary on Sundays or drop them off at the Church Office Monday through Thursday during business hours. Health Kits will be collected until Sunday, February 14th. For more on UMCOR, click HERE.

► Youth Club Continues
All Pre-K through High School youth are encouraged to register for this year’s Wednesday Youth Club. The program runs from 4:15pm to 7:00pm on Wednesdays through to March 24th, 2010. Children and Youth will share and experience bible study, music, crafts and activities. Be amazed by the Christian foundation that is formed in our youth through this program.
► Tai Chi at First UMC
Tai Chi classes are offered at First Church, Wednesdays at 9:00am at a cost of $5.00 per class. Tai Chi is great for physical health and mental growth. It’s slow pace and tempo is perfect for adults of all ages. We will be meeting in the Multipurpose Room. This class is open to all. If you have any questions you may contact the Church Office.
► Sower Work Mission Parent Information Forum
Parents are invited to attend an information meeting to learn more about this summer’s youth mission trip. This summer Crossfire Youth in Mission will be attending the Sower Work Mission at the Epworth Center in Southeast Ohio from Sunday, July 25th, through Friday, July 30th. Youth will make building repairs for individuals, families, churches and non-profit organizations who cannot afford them. The trip will conclude with a day at Cedar Point. Youth need to commit to attending by Friday, February 19th. To have your questions answered and find out how this experience can build faith, a commitment to service, and the confidence that all things are possible, please attend this session in the Multipurpose Room on Wednesday, February 10th, 7:10pm.
► First UMC's Next Fantastic Fine Arts Series Concert
The Fine Arts Series is pleased to welcome the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club in concert on Friday, February 19th, at 7:30pm. One hundred voices strong, this ensemble will lift your hearts and spirits with glorious melodies. This is a concert you must see to believe. ► Friday Fish Fry’s
Dine-in or take-out, enjoy a fish and chip dinner with, coleslaw, roll and dessert at First Church’s Friday Fish Fry’s on February 26th, March 12th and 26th. If you would prefer baked fish and/or a baked potato please let us know when you purchase your ticket in advance. Dinners for adults are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. Dinners for children ages 6 through 12 are $4.00 in advance and $5.00 at the door. Dinners for children age 5 and under are free. All dinner prices include one serving. Dinner is available from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Proceeds from the Fish Fry’s support the general operation of the church, its facilities and ministries. Volunteers are needed; please sign up at the Volunteer Sign-Up Board in the Multipurpose Room.
► Ash Wednesday Service
Ash Wednesday is coming up on Wednesday, February 17th. This is the first day of the season of Lent, and is a traditional time of introspection, confession, and forgiveness. Plan now to attend our Ash Wednesday worship service, with imposition of ashes for those who wish it, at 7:30pm on the 17th.
► Crossfire Youth's Light Your Soul Fire Retreat
The goal of the Light Your Soul Fire Retreat is to help youth light or reignite their “soul fire” for God in preparation for attending the SOWER Work Mission in July. The retreat begins on Friday, February 19th, at 6:30pm and ends on Saturday, February 20th, at 3:00pm. You can pledge to support our youth in this retreat by committing to support their mission trip financially. We are prayerful that your support of the youth attending this retreat will be one of our more significant fundraisers for our summer mission trip. Youth are asked to return their donation forms at the beginning of the retreat.
