Activities

There are many opportunities for fellowship and activities for a variety of interests at First UMC.

Here are just a few of the groups and events taking place throughout the year.
Contact the Church Office for more information about any of these activities.

► Tai Chi on Tuesdays
Tai Chi classes are being offered at First Church on Wednesdays at 9:00am at a cost of $5.00 per hour class.  Tai Chi is great for physical health and mental growth.  It’s slow pace and tempo are perfect for adults of all ages.  The group gathers in the Multipurpose Room.  This class is open to all.  If you have any questions, speak with Jocelyn Prevost or contact the Church Office during office hours.  All are welcome.

► Yoga on Thursdays
A Basic/Basic+ Yoga class is offered at First UMC on Thursdays from 12:00pm to 1:00pm (please come 15 minutes early to your first class).  This class is free to First UMC members.  The instructor has limited number of mats, so bring your own if you have one.  Yoga has many physical and mental health benefits and many people have found that it deepens their faith by helping them quiet their mind so they can connect with God without the distractions of worrying about the past or thinking about the future.  If possible, review Getting the Most Out of Your Yoga Experience before coming to class.  Click HERE for it.  In addition, please fill out the Health Questionnaire & Waiver of Liability form before your first class and bring it to class.  Click HERE for it.  If you are unable to print them out, these forms will also be available at the class.  If you have questions, please call the instructor, Deb Chymiak-Isanhart, at 248.506.9076 between 10:00am and 7:00pm, Monday through Friday.

► Women With Faith
A group of women who focus on mission projects locally and globally.  The women meet once a month to focus on Bible lessons, community outreach programs and other enriching activities.

► Men's Coffee Klatch

This group of
(mostly retired)
vibrant gentlemen share coffee and pastries while discussing a myriad of topics.  The Men’s Koffee Klatch meets every Thursday at 9:45am in the Multipurpose Room.  There is always fresh coffee, donuts and lots of discussion.  All First Church men and their friends are welcome.

Crossfire Youth
Monthly fellowship and servant ministry activities are planned with youth involvment.  Events have included movie nights, a Youth Lock-in and cosmic bowling.  Youth are also invited to use the youth lounge which includes a pool table, ping pong table and dart boards, games and surround sound system.  Crossfire Youth is open to youth in 6th to 12th grade.  All CY events are chaperones and require a signed permission slip.  Click HERE for the permission slip.

► The Wesleyan Fellowship
The Wesleyans is a social group that started many years ago as a Sunday School Class.  Through the years the class and others have enjoyed a monthly social activity.  The group is not a closed organization.  Anyone can participate as part of the group or in an individual activity.  A planning meeting is held, generally in November, to plan the activities for the following year.  This way it is guaranteed that there will in fact be activities. A chairperson and a small committee of helpers is selected.  The activities are noted in the bulletin ahead of time and a call to the chairperson will provide necessary information.  Activities are usually scheduled for the third Saturday of each month at the church except for “outside” events.
