First United Methodist Church of Mount Clemens

Bread Ministry

The FUMC Bread Ministry provides fresh but unsold Panera products to local agencies, feeding the poor and the homeless.  Bread products are collected six nights a week from 2 Panera Bread Company locations and brought to the church the next morning.  On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the breads are wrapped at 9:00 am and on Sundays we wrap after the church service.  The products are then distributed to organizations such as the Salvation Army and the Lighthouse.  We are always looking for volunteers to pick up, wrap, and distribute.  Join us on any wrap day and see what we are up to or contact Junia Querio or Marsha Lynch.

Pasty Bakers

We meet in November and April to make pasties.  It usually takes 3 days to do this.  The first night we cut the vegetables and the next day we make the pasties.  The focus of this group is to raise money for the church by selling the pasties.  Making pasties includes cutting vegetables, mixing, rolling dough, adding filling, baking, wrapping pasties and freezing.  We have lunch and are always looking for someone to do this for about 35 people on Wednesday and Thursday.  Part of our ministry is also to provide one meal for the Warming Center.  All are welcome to come join in the fun and fellowship!!  Contact Sue Tregembo if you would like more information.

Community Meals

Community Meals (hot meals for those in need and homeless) are served at First United Methodist every Sunday during the months of April through October.  Various organizations in the Community (Kiwanis, Churches, etc.) along with First Church groups (book club, quilters, Bible study) purchase, cook, and serve food to the guest from 1:00-2:30 pm.  Anyone is welcome to help!!  Contact the Church office more information.

Salvation Army Noon Meal Program

Our church has been an active supporter of the Salvation Army for many years.  We provide the meals & milk every 2nd and 5th Wednesday of the month.  Some groups choose to provide a nutritious meal & milk while others use food supplied & stored at the Salvation Army and bring the needed 4-5 gallons of milk.  We arrive at the Salvation Army on Church Street in Mount Clemens at 10:30 am and are done by 1:30.  If you are interested in forming a group or volunteering, please contact Rick Eldrige.

Warming Center

The Warming Center is here for 1 week a year.  The focus of this group is to help house the homeless.   We serve them a dinner, breakfast and give them a place to sleep.  Anyone over 18 years of age can help!  We need people to help make the dinners and breakfasts, and to clean up each morning after the guests have left.  If you would like to help or need more information, contact Dan McLatcher or Sandy Paul.

We Care

Packages of goodies are sent out twice a year for Valentine’s Day and Halloween to college students and service men and women who have a connection to our church.  Money and/or goodies are needed as well for packaging and mailing.  It is to show that our church does CARE.  Please see Joyce Wells for more information or if you can help in any way.

Blessings In a Backpack

This is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families.  For as little as $2.40 we are able fill a backpack for a child to take home on Friday from school.  A donation of $100 will provide food in a backpack for a child for the entire school year.
