New Sermon Series Begins January 15

First United Methodist Church of Mount Clemens

Each week you will be invited to watch a movie.  That next Sunday the sermon will be based on where we find Jesus in the characters and themes of the movie.

Warming Center
Jan 1 – 8, 2017

First United Methodist

Macomb County Warming Center 2017

We will once again host the Warming Center here starting Sunday, January 1st through Sunday, January 8th. It is an opportunity to live the scripture which teaches us to feed and give shelter to those in need. We will be opening up our church doors each night to 75-90 men and women and providing a meal and a warm and safe place to spend the cold night. It is our opportunity to start the year by signing up for one of the many volunteer positions.

We also welcome any donations of socks, underwear or warm clothing.

Please see Dan McLatcher or Sandy Paul if you can help.

Thank you good and faithful church!

On November 20 we will join the church for the potluck and hanging of the greens. Please come and help your church family transform our sanctuary for the holiday season. They love it when they see you all.

Cereal Drive
Nov. 13 & 20

nov-cereal

Our church will be conducting a cereal drive on two Sunday’s in November. Please purchase a box or two of cereal on a trip to the grocery store and then bring it to church on November 13th or November 20th.

The cereal we collect will then be donated to Father Bob’s Food Pantry in Mount Clemens.  It will be amazing to see the amount of cereal that we collect and the generosity that is displayed in our giving!

Thomas Curtis Clark summed it up beautifully when he wrote, “I sought His love in sun and stars, and where the wild seas roll, And found it not. But when I gave to one in need, I found the Lord of Love indeed.”

JAM Starts Oct. 19th

First United Methodist

Greetings,

I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the start of the Fall activities.  I know that everyone’s schedules start to fill up fast, so please mark your calendars now for JAM.  We have changed our program start date to October 19, 2016 and we will end before Easter in March.  We will begin with Dinner at 5:30 pm, there will also be time for Bible Learning “Sunday School”, and Music, Craft, or Mission projects, children can be picked up at 7:30 pm. The Music details will be based on what children are present, so please contact me ASAP.  Our Youth Group, (6th—12th grade) have Bells, Sunday School, and Youth Group on Sunday’s. But there has been a request to have a 6th – 12th grade option during JAM. If we have youth that will be there, we will gladly put together a mission focused program.  So again, please contact the church office and let us know if your youth will be participating in this afterschool activity.  We are so excited about this year’s program and themes.  We are blessed to have many people that believe in our children and their Christian Foundation.  Of course we are still in need of lots of adult helpers. Come, get to know great kids, make new adult friends, enjoy a meal, and make a difference in their faith journey.

Peace,

Kitty Kinic

Join Us For Coffee With the Pastor

First United Methodist

We are so blessed to have guests visiting with us each week. I want to invite you to join me for Coffee with the Pastor. We will gather on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 11:30 am in the conference room. We’d love to be your church family! Coffee with the Pastor is designed to help you discover the values and beliefs of this church and the United Methodist denomination in a casual setting. We will share drinks and a light meal together, learn more about the church, and one another. I believe in this church and its ministry. When we find the right church family and make a commitment, we grow in our closeness to God, we learn to love our neighbor, and to walk as a child of God. I pray that you find that place of connection that will draw you closer to God. If you have questions, concerns, or plan to attend, please give me a call, text, or email. Child care will be available if that would be helpful for your family, just let me know.

Blessings,

Rev. Mary

Our Youth Group is growing and this is exciting. Not only will there be a meal, games, and music, we will also brainstorm and put together our calendar for 2016-2017. Blessings in a Backpack

Third Wednesday of each month at Seminole at 4:00 P.M.

sept-1

School is starting back and the backpacks are ready to be filled and distributed at Seminole Academy in Mt. Clemens.

We are beginning our second year of this ministry and are excited to say that we are nearly fully funded for the school year!  Approximately 300 children in need will have  nutritious meals for the weekend thanks to this program.

There is an opportunity for those who wish to help pack the backpacks.  We at First Church will pack on the third Wednesday of each month at Seminole at 4:00 P.M. The commitment is only about 30 minutes.

Please see Dan McLatcher for details.
